Oral Critiques

Oral Critiques are held at the completion of each of the Basic Medical Science Courses and offer information about the effectiveness of the courses. The critiques provide an opportunity for the students to express in person any concerns or issues and give additional feedback to the Course's faculty and leadership. At the critiques, a preliminary set of the course's survey results are distributed to the attendees. This allows the students to see where they fall in the overall opinion of their class. Lively and interesting discussions usually ensue with much interaction between the students and the course's faculty.

Course and Curriculum Evaluation Committee (CCEC)

The CCEC is a standing subcommittee of CUME. The CCEC reviews in detail each medical school course every three years for content and evaluation methods. Several Medical and Dental School Faculty, along with student representatives from the four Medical School classes comprise the committee. There is representation from basic scientists and clinicians. The process involves looking through course syllabus in detail, feedback from the students via survey results and oral critiques, and in depth discussions of all aspects of the course sections during the CCEC meetings. Once a course is evaluated, recommendations are compiled by the Chairperson, Charles G. Huntington, PA, MPH and presented to the Course Director for review and feedback. These recommendations are then presented to CUME for consideration in modifying the course.
